Gross Out Delights

Sawed-off Thumbs

Makes 4 serving(s)

WHAT'S IN IT?

1 pound ground turkey
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon light mayonnaise
1/2 tablespoon ketchup + 1/4 cup ketchup

STUFF YOU NEED

Large mixing bowl
Measuring spoons
Large, non-stick baking sheet
Small bowl
Small spoon
Dry measuring cup
Potholders
Cooling rack (optional)

HOW TO PUT IT TOGETHER

  1. Ask an adult for permission to use the oven. Preheat the oven to 350° F.
  2. Dump the ground turkey into a large mixing bowl. From measuring spoons, sprinkle in the paprika, pepper and salt.
  3. With two squeaky-clean hands, squish and squash the turkey and seasonings together well.
  4. Shape the turkey mixture into about 16 regular-size thumb shapes.
  5. Place the "thumbs" down on a large, non-stick baking sheet. Now, wash your hands again.
  6. Bake for 20 minutes on the middle oven rack.
  7. While the "thumbs" are baking, use a small spoon to mix together the mayonnaise and 1/2 tablespoon of ketchup in a small bowl.
  8. Measure the extra 1/4 cup ketchup into a dry measuring cup. Keep it in the measuring cup for now.
  9. With potholders, remove the hot baking sheet from the oven. Place on a cooling rack or a cool stovetop.
  10. Drop a tiny bit of the mayonnaise mixture onto the tiptop part of each thumb to make "fingernails."
  11. To serve, put 4 thumbs on each plate. Then drip some of the ketchup from the measuring cup onto the "sawed off" end of each thumb. Make it look like oozing "blood"! Gross!
