Checkerboard A.M. Pizza

WHAT'S IN IT?

1 whole English muffin (2 halves)
2 (2/3-ounce) slices Canadian bacon
2 (2/3-ounce) slices American cheese

STUFF YOU NEED

Fork or bread knife
Toaster
Microwave-safe plate
Cutting board

HOW TO PUT IT TOGETHER

  1. Split open the English muffin into 2 halves with a fork or bread knife.
  2. Toast the muffin halves at a medium heat setting until they're golden brown. When slightly cooled, place the muffin halves on a microwave-safe plate.
  3. On a cutting board, use a cutting knife to slice each piece of Canadian bacon 3 times to make 4 strips. You should have 8 strips after you cut both pieces of Canadian bacon.
  4. Slice each piece of American cheese 4 times to make 5 strips. You should have 10 strips after you cut both pieces of cheese.
  5. Lay 4 Canadian bacon strips straight up and down on each muffin half so that it looks like there's a whole, uncut piece of Canadian bacon on each muffin half.
  6. Going sideways, weave cheese strips over and under Canadian bacon strips to make a checkerboard pattern. If you can fit only 4 of the 5 cheese strips onto each muffin, that's OK. Just eat the fifth!
  7. Place the plate with the Checkerboard A.M. Pizzas into the microwave. Microwave on high for 30 seconds, or just until the cheese is gooey and melted. Remove the plate with potholders.
  8. Then, munch away rather than play with these cheesy checkerboards!
